Past Forward Podcast, Episode 9 - Mike Taus
Mike is a very old and very dear friend of mine. I’m not entirely sure we actually discussed a single topic at any sort of length during our discussion, but I guess that’s what happens when we get together. I think we make for entertaining banter, though. At the very least, you can marvel at how two grown men can carry on like this.
South Carolina Voter ID Law: Yep, Pretty Discriminating - Mother Jones
I’m torn on the various Voter ID laws being passed in states across our country. On one hand, I’m baffled that so many people don’t have any form of government-issued ID. No driver’s license, ID card, passport, nothing. How do you get a job? How do you buy alcohol if you’re over 21? How do you drive a car? How do you get a library card? How do you do just about anything without some form of government-issued ID? It boggles my mind. And based off that bogglement, I support the idea that people should have some form of ID in order to vote. But the idea and the intent of these voter ID laws are not the same. As much as the people who support these laws like to deny it, time and time again the numbers come back that the laws unfairly disenfranchise minority, elderly and youth voters. Heck, in Wisconsin, the state passed a new voter ID law and then started closing down DMV offices in areas that were filled with primarily Democratic voters. That kind of thing stinks to high heaven. And it’s indicative of similar efforts in other states. If we’re going to make IDs mandatory for everyone to vote, then it needs to be done in a more inclusive and easy to obtain way. Not in a way that disenfranchises votering blocs that are predisposed to vote for either major party. That’s just dirty pool and a real underhanded play to consolidate power. Knock it off.

I stumbled across a link to this series yesterday (thanks, reddit!) and have been plowing through it. Very interesting and utterly fascinating for dog owners.
There is no 'free' lemonade :: Terry Savage
Apparently, children being in a giving mood give this Terry Savage character a raging headache and instills in him a desire to kill and maim.
Y’know, something tells me that if Terry and her unfortunate relatives were driving through an upscale neighborhood and the children giving away the lemonade were being watched by a fucking nanny, that those little girl’s parents aren’t exactly being put out of house and home over a few packets of lemonade mix and a handful of candybars.
I bet she’s a hoot at a party that has an open bar. “NO, YOU MAY NOT GIVE ME A WHITE WINE SPRITZER! CHARGE ME SOMETHING FOR IT, FREELOADER!!!!!”
What a fucking bitch. Just take the lemonade and drive away, you awful, awful woman.

NC Secular Association Sponsors "Godless" Billboard in Charlotte & Other NC Cities | FOX Charlotte | Top Stories
From the article:
“I would suspect that most people are paying it no attention,” says conservative pastor Joe Chambers. He says the billboard is blasphemous, although he appreciates people’s right to free speech. “God is sovereign, He does rule this universe and He did create it. You can spit in His face, but you need to get ready for the results,” says Chambers.
Question: How exactly is pointing out the historic fact that the pledge didn’t originally include the words “under God” equate to blasphemy and spitting in the face of God? Am I missing something here?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and all, but that’s a fact. It’s not like the atheist group is making shit up to piss off Christians.
Oh, and a fun fact for Pastor Joe Chambers- the pledge was originally written by Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister. So, maybe you should be asking why a Baptist minister was blaspheming by not including “under God” in the pledge in the first place.
Idiot.
