Rick Santorum: Left uses college for "indoctrination" - CBS News

Perhaps, just perhaps, Rick, those of us who go to college and come out more liberal and less religious aren’t indoctrinated.

Maybe knowledge and critical thinking lead some-but not all-people away from religion.

Maybe being instantly saddled with massive, often crippling debt simply due to a desire for knowledge and understanding of the world gives some people a more progressive view of the world.

Maybe you and your ilk just want a cowed, ignorant, obedient mass of humanity that will hang on your every word and believe whatever you tell them without thinking twice because it’s easier to manipulate people who don’t know any better.

Maybe, just maybe, not everyone who attends college comes out a left-wing atheist, but instead gains critical thinking skills and a more inquisitive nature and that makes them more difficult to satiate with empty platitudes and dog-whistle politics, no matter what their political leaning.

Maybe what you’re really upset about are people who see through the stuffed-shirt politicos like yourself who are all talk and no action, who are in it for their own personal glory instead of the betterment of all Americans, and we’re increasingly getting sick and tired of your bullshit.

And maybe, just maybe, a guy with an undergrad from Penn State, a masters from Pitt and a law degree from a Dickinson shouldn’t be trashing people who want to get an education, because it certainly sound hypocritical to shit all over the professors and institutions that helped on your way to a career and livelihood that included being a high-powered lawyer, a congressman, and now a Presidential hopeful. You didn’t do that shit on your own and you certainly didn’t leave college a secular leftist by any stretch of the imagination.

So allow me to put aside all my high-falutin’ state college book-learnin’ aside for a moment and resort to a more folksy, ‘Merican way of speaking- You’re a asshole and a hypocrite and you make me ashamed to call myself an American. Go fuck yourself, shithead.

N.C.A.A.’s Double Standard - NYTimes.com

This kind of stuff is disgusting and happens quite often. The NCAA, in the parlance of the sports it oversees, is getting run out of the gym recently. They had a few questionable rulings last fall in college football, as well.

Most alarming is the deferred suspension of five Ohio State Buckeyes after it was found that they received improper benefits (Tattoo-gate, it’s been called). The players were allowed to play in the bowl game, but will be suspended for the first five games next year.

Meanwhile, their coach, Jim Tressel, apparently knew about the infractions BEFORE THE SEASON and did nothing. He was handed down a two-game suspension, effective next year and self-imposed it up to five.

Now, what is worse? Being an 18, 19, 20 year old kid and trading signed jerseys (that are yours to do with as you please) and autographs for free or discounted tattoos; or finding out about this infraction perpetrated by your players, hiding it from the athletic department and the NCAA for the entire season, stating that you had no knowledge of it whatsoever, then when it finally comes to light, being exposed as a liar and a cheat by leaked e-mails which force you to admit that you were lying all along?

Sounds to me like the first infraction is youthful indiscretion and the second is calculated deceit.

In states, parties clash over voting laws that call for IDs, limits on where college students can cast ballots

This is the political equivalent of taking the ball and trying to leave the game because you know you’re going to lose. When bullies no longer feel they have the upper hand, they either try to change the rules or try to leave before they lose fair and square.

They also resort to name-calling.

156 - Thursday, June 10th - In the interest of breaking news, I’m going to skip over my picture of the day for Wednesday for now and put up one for Thursday.
Today, the NCAA handed down a ruling on the violations that U$C has committed over the years. Two-year postseason ban for football and the loss of ten scholarships a year for three years.
The main players implicated in the violations are former USC basketball player OJ Mayo and football player Reggie Bush. From the ESPN article on the judgement:
“The NCAA found that Bush was ineligible beginning at least by December 2004, a ruling that could open discussion on the revocation of his Heisman Trophy. Members of the Heisman Trophy Trust have said they might review Bush’s award if he was ruled ineligible by the NCAA.”
As a lifelong Notre Dame fan, this particularly hurts, since the above picture is from the 2005 ND-USC matchup where Reggie Bush (who should have been ineligible to play at the time, according to the ruling of the NCAA) illegally pushed QB Matt Leinart into the endzone for the game-winning score.
FUCK USC.
