This record came out...

Cotton Mather - Camp Hill Radio Operator

This record came out the year before I went off to college. I was still mired in a post-grunge haze of late-era Soundgarden and castoffs like 7Mary3 and Sponge. It would be a few more years until I completely embraced The Replacements, Big Star, and dozens of other bands that, instead of enriching my youth, informed my early 20s. That was about the time that I fell hard for power pop and punk, the blues, and rediscovered my love for real country music during that time. During all of this, I never once heard the name “Cotton Mather.”

The good thing about that is that I get to soak myself in them now, at 32, the time when you’re starting to get more and more jaded about nearly everything. Losing myself in an album that still sounds incredibly fresh and evokes some of the best parts of my youth is a real joy.

Kontiki was recently re-released and has been the subject of some press. Perhaps my generation has found their Big Star…

Even if that’s a bit of hyperbole, enjoy this standout from that album, anyway. It’s damn good, I promise.

Instead of posting this originally, I’ll be both lazy and...

Instead of posting this originally, I’ll be both lazy and at the same time help promote the band. Check out the last shoot I did for OPBmusic before our vacation. We had Portland’s The Wild Ones in studio and they tore it up!

And after watching the video, check out the link below the the bands’ Tumblr page. You can buy their stuff and find out where they’ll be playing and everything!
