Hindus denounce Pope for being offensive to atheists - Oneindia News
Kudos to Rajan Zed.
This talk of “militant atheism” bugs the shit out of me. I was raised in a Christian household and my mother took us to Lutheran Church. I don’t doubt that I got a portion of the value system that I have today from that upbringing. I’m glad that she gave me that foundation.
Every day I struggle with faith. I don’t consider myself in any way to be a Christian. But, that doesn’t mean that I disrespect those who do. It takes a great amount of patience and faith to be a religious person and I respect that. All that I ask is that those who are religious respect me for who I am. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you look at it from a balanced perspective, who are any of us to say that we have all of the answers, or at least the ones that matter? The possibility that each major religion has parts of it correct is always out there, so I try to not denounce anyone’s core faith, if I can help it.
Fighting over who is right regarding something that we can never fully understand is childish and stupid and only leads to pain and suffering, in my opinion. Condemning others and chastising those who disagree with us gets us nowhere.
Plus, equating atheism with Nazis is just plain stupid. As a former Hitler youth, the Pope should certainly know that. Hitler was a Catholic and justified the killing of 6 million Jews through his religion, not through his lack thereof.
Why are we listening to a guy who thinks that the use of condoms spreads AIDS instead of helping to stop it, anyway?
