The Enthusiasm Gap or He’s Just a President | The LA Progressive
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I knew all along that Obama is/was a centrist. That’s why I voted for him. Not because of all of the “hope and change” rhetoric, but because I believed he was someone who could bring our fractured country together and move us forward.
I should have guessed that the right wing would find many baseless ways to attack him, because, let’s face facts, the extreme right wing of our country still hasn’t gotten over the fact that slavery is no longer legal.
They’re upset that a black man like Obama isn’t someone’s chattel, but is instead the President of the United States. So, they attack him and call him a Nazi and a socialist and call into question his fitness to hold the office, even though there is no question and he won the Presidency by bigger numbers than Bush ever did. It’s insane.
He’s not the best President in the history of everything, but he’s trying to do the right things. Sometimes he comes up short, sometimes he fails and sometimes he succeeds. I think that our country will be better off for having him, whether it be for four years or eight.
