“I Dig Music”
It’s true, I do. I like all kinds of music. Those of you who followed my Top Ten Countdown last fall will hopefully attest to this.
In any case, I thought that I’d give y’all a little insight into what and who have been catching my ear so far this year.

The Right Thing
Barry Bonds has hit 741 home runs to this point in his career, a large number. He sits only 14 homers shy of Hank Aaron’s all-time record of 755. The trouble is; people don’t like Barry Bonds. And why should they? He’s egotistical, has been embroiled in steroids scandal for the last four to five […] (via Stupid White Boy)

New Happiness
In my time spent (or ill-spent) surfing the web recently, I’ve discovered a ton of music-oriented blogs. Stereogum, Gorilla v. Bear, and That Truncheon Thing, to name a few.
I love these things. L-O-V-E them.
In a relatively recent post on That Truncheon Thing, they posted an entire live Uncle Tupelo performance from 1993. This made me […] (via Stupid White Boy)
I’m Turning Into A Curmudgeon
Stop shaking your heads in disbelief, it’s true and we both know it. I’ve turned into a Curmudgeon. I climb onto my high horse with my laptop and bitch about things that I don’t like or understand.
It was bound to happen sooner or later, I admit.
I’ve always taken pleasure in bitching about things. Check with […] (via Stupid White Boy)

stereogum: Katrina Kerns, Voluntary Virgin →
Y’know what? Good for her. Too bad for just about every guy that’s ever seen her perform, but good for her. I saw her play with Sufjan last year at the Sasquatch Festival and she is insanely beautiful in person, as well as a very talented musician. It’s good to hear that she has a good head on her shoulders.

Speaking as someone who actually watched a good portion of Gonzalez’s testimony, I have to say that our President not only is a moron, which was already a known known, but that he has no cognitive abilities whatsoever, which was a known unknown up until this point. Fucking amazing…
It’s That Kind of Day
The sun is out. I’m sitting in an adirondack chair in my backyard, watching my dogs dart around my freshly mowed lawn. I rode my bike home from work, taking in the lush, green valley as I made my way down the hill, reminding me once again why I live where I do.

The Freshmaker
Strawberry Mentos!
Ever since these were discontinued, I’ve been wanting them back. The other day I was in line at the convenience store and they caught my eye. Yay! I don’t know if they’ve really been around the whole time and I just haven’t been frequenting the establishments that carry them or what, but I’ve found […] (via Stupid White Boy)
I don’t know about you, but I’m hiding under my desk right now. Duck and Cover, kids!
Superdrag
That’s my Saturday. Right there, that one word. “Superdrag.” It’s also the name of a great band that’s no longer together, but that’s beside the point. It’s nearly seven on Saturday and I haven’t really done a damn thing. I played basketball around lunch-time and went for a short run (treadmill) afterwards, then came home […] (via Stupid White Boy)

Again, the underlying message about guys that drink beer: “We’re unapologetic assholes.” Aside from that, pretty funny.
Slow News Day
If you follow the NFL and are intently devouring every single tidbit of information about the upcoming draft, you have no doubt have heard that three prospects admitted to smoking marijuana during their interviews (which are supposedly confidential).

Call Me Curious
I’m sure that a few of you have gone out on the internets and found yourselves a random IQ Test to take at one time or another. We’re curious creatures, and some of us want to know how smart we supposedly are on a numerical scale. We can’t all be Einstein, but we can hope, […] (via Stupid White Boy)

This is about gun control.
I grew up in a house that was, almost literally, filled with guns and ammunition. I learned how to shoot a gun when I was still using training wheels on my bike. Most of the time, I had a larger arsenal […] (via Stupid White Boy)

I Should Have Mentioned This Earlier
I should have told you all earlier that my posting may be severely curtailed by my part-time gig as voice talent (i.e.- guy that reads stuff into a microphone in his office at night) for a online continuing education program. So, most every night, I’ll be chipping away at hundreds of pages of coursework that […] (via Stupid White Boy)
Slain Israeli Professor Saved Others in Va. Tech... →
I’m sure that there’s more than a few stories like this one that will come out of what happened yesterday at VaTech. I can’t even imagine the courage that 77 year-old man had to do something like that. People that embody this kind of selflessness deserve to be remembered for a long time in the hearts and minds of all of us.

I’m listening to Matt & Kim, because it’s the only thing that can bring a smile to my face right now.

Good news, sports fans! I received a call this morning from a fellow that informed me that my beloved Macbook was fully repaired (finally) and waiting for me to pick up. I was elated. For those of you who don’t know, Wilco is one of my very favorite bands. They have a new album, Sky Blue Sky, that’s “dropping” May 15th. I’ve heard a leaked, unmastered version of it, and it is, in a word, awesome. So, mark your calendars for the Ides of May and in the meantime, […] (via Stupid White Boy)

The wit and wisdom of Don Imus. - By Timothy Noah... →
Full discosure, I used to listen to Imus In The Morning when I would go to work with my father. I thought some of the stuff he said was funny. Of course, I was 10 years old at the time and didn’t know any better. Also, in my father’s defense, I’m pretty sure I laughed at Imus’ jokes more than he did, which probably says something about his brand of humor…

This is just sad, and I can’t help but feel for small record store owners in days like these. But, the fact is, I buy most of my music online, too. I rarely illegally download things anymore, since I can afford the music I want because of sites like eMusic. When I do venture out into the real world to buy a CD, I ALWAYS go to independant, locally-owned stores, even though there’s a...
