Is Nothing Sacred!?
Tuesday is garbage day in my neighborhood. To save myself the hassle of having to drag the garbage can to the curb without getting my dress slacks dirty, I usually put it out the night before. No more. I walked out to my car this morning to discover that someone had stolen my trash. Yeah, I was as surprised as you are. Someone stole my trash. To be fair, I had put out my recycling and cans have a...

Blurb Update: Sioux!!!
UND’s Fighting Sioux hockey team won their tournament opener against Michigan last night, despite having the WCHA send out notices that they were from North Dakota State University…GO SIOUX! That’s right, someone screwed up royal by mistaking UND with their hated, hated rival, NDSU. Well done, sir.

Yeah, I’m postiing this a day later than usual, but did you even notice? That’s what I thought. 1. Barry Bonds: Still Nothing But A Punk-Ass Bitch - So Barry and his lawyers have decided to sue the two journalists that wrote “Game of Shadows” a book profiling Barry’s use of a splendiferous amount of performance enhancing drugs, which included a steriod used on...

So, I Vomited.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, I vomited on St. Patrick’s Day (well, technically, it was very early the next morning, but we’ll just say it was St. Paddys, for the sake of continuity…what was I talking about?). I am now part of the giant cliche of reveling, vomiting revelers that inhabit just about every corner bar and street corner on that most glorious of drinking...

Blurb Update
Well, I picked all of this morning’s games in the NCAA Tournament right, save one. So that’s good news for my bracket. Also, the Fighting Sioux beat Wisconsin 4-3 in the semis of the WCHA championship, so they will play the winner of St.Cloud State and Minnesota. Nice. Plus, I had a very good chocolate chip cookie with my lunch. Bonus.

1. NCAA Tournament Brackets- I don’t know why I’m compelled to fill these out every year. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve followed college basketball less and less. This year, I really know virtually nothing about any of the teams. I know that Duke’s JJ Reddick and Gonzaga’s Adam Morrison are awesome and that’s about it. I think I’ve watched about five...

...In Music News
Like many of you, I listen to music. Not all the time, of course. I have other things to do with my time. But listening to music is a pretty big part of my life. I appreciate music and love well-made music. I even like music that isn’t necessarily well-made, as long as it has heart and passion. There are lots of different ways to gauge whether music is good or not. I prefer to go with what...

1. Lavender Diamond: are you a cult?- On monday night, I went to the Doug Fir to see a band that I’ve always wanted to see, Low. They were supposed to come to town last year, but the lead singer/guitarist had a “nervous breakdown” and had to be hospitalized. Sounds like he could have used to the Indie Rocker Soup Kitchen (see post from yesterday). But, now they are back out on...

Someone Feed the Indie Rockers!
I’ve decided to start a non-profit organization to help feed the Indie Rockers of the world. Living in Portland, you see them all over the place, emaciated and unbelievably cool-looking. From the look of it, these people have nary the money to feed, clothe or bathe themselves on a consistent basis. I mean, I’ve been to my fair share of shows around town and these people seem to...

It's Snowing In Portland!
Seriously, earlier today it was snowing in downtown Portland. Heavy snow, too. But it melted on contact, so I guess the effect was kind of lost in the end. But still, snow in Portland in March, weird. When I went out to my car this morning, there was snow all over our lawn, a good inch of so, too. It was piled on my car and I had to sweep it off. I got strange Deja Vu vibes when I did that, it was...

Growing Up With Kirby
I was eleven years old when I watched the Twins win the World Series in 1991. I distinctly remember sitting on the edge of my parent’s bed late into the night, my eyes fixed on their little 13” television as I watched Kirby and the Twins pull out an improbable World Series win. I remember the big plays, the names, the characters and the passion with which those Twins played the game....

Speaking of the Academy Awards...
I caught a decent amount of the relatively consise, short (in contrast) Oscars last night. I think Jon Stewart did a pretty damn good job, considering that he was a bit out of his element. He did manage to get at least one cringe-inducing moment in along with some very funny, Daily Show-ish bits. The cringe was coming back from a commercial break, he appeared to be halfway through a diatribe about...

Blurbs, Part Three
let’s get down to it. 1. Air Jordans: Learn to Share-So I was skirting around the Niketown website the other day, looking at shoes, because I need shoes. No alterior motives, just looking at shoes and trying to picture them on my feet. On a whim, I popped by the Jordan section of the site. I noticed that the new Air Jordans had come out and thought, “Hey, why not?” So,...
